There are two in-person events on the menu for this release!! I’ll be at Skylight Books in Los Angeles on Monday, July 18th at 7pm, celebrating the release of Just Like Home! Bring your mask and come spend an evening with me and get your copy a night early.

I’m also coming to the Bay Area! Come to Book Passage in San Francisco on July 21 at 5pm to spend an evening with me and Maggie Tokuda-Hall, acclaimed author of Squad and The Mermaid, The Witch, and The Sea. We’re going to have a blast!

New Short Story: The Daily Commute

I have a new short story out at Sunday Morning Transport! The Daily Commute is a story I’m so proud of. This represented my first time writing in the collective tense, about a bus full of passengers who are in a hurry. I hope you love it.

NASA Reveals Webb Telescope’s First Images of Unseen Universe

As a general rule I feel that what happens in space is not my business. Space is an area that is in no way intended for me. That said, I love learning cool space information with the knowledge that I will never, ever, ever be involved in going to the places where the space things are happening! The Webb Telescope revealed some stunning images of space this week, and I’ve been loving the process of seeing parts of the universe that, and I cannot stress this enough, I will not go to.

Jeff Bezos’s yacht is stuck in the Netherlands

Jeff Bezos' $500M superyacht, which is one of the biggest boats in the whole world, can’t go anywhere unless Rotterdam takes down a historic bridge. They’re not gonna do it. I love this.

Waffle

If you liked Wordle, you’ll love Waffle, a game that combines the mechanism of Wordle with crossword puzzle logic. It’s one of my favorite parts of the day.

I’m Reading: A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers

After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home.

They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe.

When her quest to destroy the Gods began, Buc was a child of the streets. Now she is a woman of steel, shaped by gaining and losing power, tempered by love and betrayal, and honed to a fine edge by grief and her desire for vengeance.

A perilous, clandestine mission to a hidden library uncovers information that is key to destroying both the Dead Gods and their enemy, the Goddess Ciris. Ciris's creation, Sin, who lives inside Buc, gives her superhuman abilities and tempts her with hints of even greater power. With that power, she could achieve almost anything--end the religious war tearing her world apart, remake society at a stroke--but the price would be the betrayal of everything she has fought for . . . and the man she loved would still be dead.

In the middle of this murderous, magical maelstrom, a coded message smuggled out of the heart of the Dead Gods' cathedral reveals that the Dead Gods intend to destroy Ciris--and much of the world with her.

This. Will. Not. Stand.

If Buc has to destroy all Gods, eat the rich, and break the world's economy to save the people, she will do it. Even if it costs her everything.
