Welcome to this month’s Supper Club Scrapbook! In the Supper Club Discord, we share what we’re working on, what we’re excited about, and how we’re showing up for our neighbors. Every month, I’ll be sharing a little cross-section of what our community is up to.

This month, we got the brand new Discord up and running! You can join by subscribing to the Supper Club. This digital community space was such a labor of love from the team, and dang, it shows. The vibes are slower and more relaxed than most online spaces I’ve been in, and everyone is showing up with care and enthusiasm for each other. That care has already included:

  • Frank discussion about how to support the efforts of folks doing important work throughout the US, and how to spread information responsibly
  • Honest conversation about cooking, diets, and how to appreciate cabbage
  • Tons of amazing crafts
  • Lots of excellent pet photos (including a very adorable hedgehog)

Also, Monday was my birthday! I had a lovely day that included a dinner so wildly delicious, I’m still recovering from it. Thanks to everyone who sent warm thoughts. Here are my birthday wishes from Monday:

And here are the links:

Anyway, enjoy this little cross-section of our month!

I somehow have TWO stories publishing on the same auspicious day: 2/2! These stories could not be more different tonally but they are both about women coming into and taking back their power.

Mother, Darling” (novelette, Strange Horizons) follows Wendy Darling, struggling mother post-WWI, trying to extract her recalcitrant daughter from a war-torn Neverland.

Bootcut” (short story, Haven Spec) is a darkly humorous, sartorial, feminist revenge story, aka murder jeans aka Sisterhood of the Traveling Murder Pants.

I have a weird af story out. It's a WEIRD western with a trans man narrator and a jackalope living space: “Unsettled Nature

I went to LA and ran catering & crafty for a pal’s film shoot! It was so fun and I think I did an OKAY job. Also I managed to do it all under budget, which was the real win.

After getting served an ad for slow stitching kits last month, I've gone through a whole library-fueled deep dive into Sashiko slow stitching and visible mending. Sashiko appeals to me because it's very geometric and methodical. I made some coasters for a friend last week and learned a bunch!!

one thing I do is surface pattern designs — repeating patterns for fabric, wallpaper, whatever. I recently finished a collection of midcentury modern-inspired fish. look at these kissing cuties.

Vegas always reminds me of a cyberpunk megacity so it’s the perfect spot to start outlining my cyberpunk medical thriller.

The second and third legs of my January travel were to Thailand for a wedding and then a writing retreat.

Got a new toy. Was going to make magnets but the magnet paper I had was so old it crumbled when I unrolled it 😅

Got some amazing shots of the aurora last week, and one where my phone's long exposure inexplicably turned my son and I into phantoms

If folks visit the website: https://www.annielovesdogs.com/ there is short film, written by Annie, directed/edited by me - about what her daily life is like, including a scene where she creates a video using her eyes and an assistive device.

Annie is a super cool person and self-describes as, "The baddest bitch you'll ever meet." She's also one of the kindest people I've met and loves ALL the animals. Right now she has three dogs and two rabbits.

Here is the one minute teaser.

Annie Wilson in her wheelchair and in her lap is a small sleepy dog wrapped in a fuzzy grey blanket. On the floor, near the wheelchair, is a pug dog wearing a pearl necklace.

I crocheted a shawl using yarn dyed by Republic of Yarnia, aka Dr Mary Rambaran-Olm!
