When We Were Magic in paperback now!

The paperback edition of When We Were Magic is HERE!

When We Were Magic, a neon orange book featuring six teen femmes in black and white clothing, resting on top of a puzzle that is a rainbow spirograph.

A week ago, I published a round-up of all the places you can purchase When We Were Magic. I won’t take up space in your inbox by repeating all that information, but if you haven’t bought it yet or put it on hold at your local library, there’s still time! Click that link to find all kinds of places you can go to get your hands on all the different editions of the book.

If you’re wondering what it’s like to read the book, check out what Publisher's Weekly had to say:

After Alexis decides to lose her virginity on prom night to classmate Josh Harper, an unfortunate magical mishap leaves Josh dead, Alexis at fault, and her loyal band of friends arranging a cover-up, keeping quiet as an investigation into his disappearance begins. Magic isn’t Alexis’s only secret—she’s also in love with her best friend, Roya. Overall, the story’s magical elements signify the exploration of insecurity, uncertainty, and self-acceptance surrounding identity and significant life changes for this deeply inclusive group, which spans gender identities, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. Alexis’s hesitancy to admit her feelings for Roya is rooted in her self-doubt and the value she places on their friendship, a distinctive choice that feels modern and relatable.

Finally: come hang out with me and Maggie Tokuda-Hall, author of The Mermaid, The Witch, and The Sea and the incredible forthcoming graphic novel Squad, on Instagram Live tonight at 6:30 PT!! Can you Guess what we’re going to be doing?

In the foreground, an index card reading "IG LIVE 6:30pm PST! @gaileyfrey @maggietokudahall Be there!!" In the background, a game of Guess Who featuring animals instead of people.

Then, on Thursday, June 3rd at 8pm ET, I’ll be in conversation with Mark Oshiro, author of Anger is a Gift and Each of Us a Desert, hosted by Loyalty Bookstores!

If you’ve got a copy of the book, I’d be so delighted if you’d post a selfie with it on social media using the hashtag #WhenWeWereMagic. Some people have been sharing what they loved about the book, and I can't tell you how wonderful it is to know how this story has touched people who read it!

Either way, thank you so much for sharing this with me. You're the best.
