Help E. Catherine Tobler

Elise's work at Shimmer is a huge part of what made me a writer. I wrote 27?ish? short stories in my first year, just trying to get it right for her. Finally, after I want to say 4 YEARS, she took one of my stories for the final issue of Shimmer.

Do you know the kind of editor you have to be to get someone to spend 4 years trying to be good enough for you to publish? She's been that for the whole genre.

If you have ever loved anything of mine, go donate to support her recovery and consider it royalties.

From her GoFundMe:

you may or may not already know , but Elise suffered septic shock after cancer was removed from her leg (this past March), turning what had already been months of particularly difficult chemo treatments into a very long hospital stay. She was admitted in mid-August and she's still there now, recovering. (Hi Elise )

we are turning to you to help. We want to lift some of the weight from Elise's shoulders, to give her some help paying bills and necessities, so she can take time and space to recover. We'd love to see the community come together and chip in, whatever you can, toward helping Elise.

usually we run our annual The Deadlands fundraiser in October but THIS *Octobler* we encourage you instead to donate to this Go Fund Me to help one of our favorite skeletons get back to her best.

everything you donate goes 100% to Elise (minus GFM administrative fees, probably), and all of that will be put to good use.

On Tuesday, October 6th, I participated in an AMA over on the League of Comics Geeks with Mike Costa, writer of Hellbound Hearts, and editor Ari Yarwood. It was part of the League’s Haunted Legends Halloween Community Event. We talked about all things Hellraiser and what’s ahead for the franchise.

Go read the whole thing here.

Currently Reading: The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman

Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path.

But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Galva is a knight, a survivor of the brutal goblin wars, and handmaiden of the goddess of death. She is searching for her queen, missing since a distant northern city fell to giants.

Unsuccessful in his robbery and lucky to escape with his life, Kinch now finds his fate entangled with Galva's. Common enemies and uncommon dangers force thief and knight on an epic journey where goblins hunger for human flesh, krakens hunt in dark waters, and honor is a luxury few can afford.
