Supper Club Scrapbook: June 2026
Welcome to this month’s Supper Club Scrapbook! In the Supper Club Discord, we share what we’re working on, what we’re excited about, and how we’re showing up for our neighbors. Every month, I’ll be sharing a little cross-section of what our community is up to.
This month put me through the wringer. Due to some medication changes, I spent June weathering about eight thousand Symptoms, each one of which posed a direct threat to my sanity. But now I can see a light at the end of that vile tunnel, and I seem to have clung to a couple of brain cells along the way, so the future is bright. July is my last big travel month this year (knock on wood) and I’m extremely, extremely grateful to be heading out on the road without the bodily torments I was dealing with a month ago.
Onward!

My dad and his wife take dance lessons and today was a big event for all the studios in the region where he had a solo. This is him and his dance teacher/partner doing nightclub two step, which my dad tells me is not actually a two step.

Photo's a little blurry but so was my brain after producing another Nebula Awards ceremony. Seen here: me, my co-producer Rebekah Postupak, and the Grand Master/Special Guest Liaison, Phoenix Alexander. It's our tradition to get a post-show We're So Exhausted and Now We Sleep selfie (before going to karaoke and not sleeping).
I also got to meet Jordan in person for the first time, but I'm bad at asking for selfies so we have no real proof.

I edit and publish an online journal about science fiction and fantasy (2 essays/month), and every 6 months I publish a book collecting the 12 essays + a bonus. And the Jan-June 2026 collection of Speculative Insight is now available! The bonus is by Angela Acosta and it's about women in Spanish science fiction. The ebook is AUD20, the paperback is AUD35... and if you subscribe in the next couple weeks, the ebook is free as part of the subscription (which is AUD30/year, and gets you TWO ebooks...)

My New Mexico trip has been reenergizing. Every group of rocks is part of a walk around the acequias or the banks of the Rio Grande nearby. A few rocks here and there already inspired some writing and even a satisfying ending.

I hand sewed and embroidered these handkerchiefs for a dear friend over the weekend (the bike design was drawn by someone else but I also drew both of the other designs). I haven’t done much sewing, embroidery, or drawing in a long time, and it felt so good to stretch some dormant creative muscles! And my friend loved them. 🥰

The fruits 😏 of my labours: 24 jars of strawberry jam with balsamic and black pepper, and 7 jars of strawberry rhubarb pie filling

As i wanted to disconnect a little while on my NM trip, I got a charmera to capture some moments without being distracted by the phone. This one offered great resolution and charming effects

I don't take advantage of the fact that I can walk down to the beach from my flat enough so I've been working on correcting that

DID YOU SEE THIS??? The cover reveal of this most beautiful book cover by Misha Chernov for my new novella They Call the Place Wild.
I can promise you it’ll be another strange one. Breadcrumbs leading you deep into the dark forest, bare feet black in the rich rotting soil. Let’s get lost!

Also, khōréō magazine has a fundraiser up until July 15. If you’re familiar with khōréō, then you know what great work they do to publish speculative fiction from diaspora and immigrant writers! They published TWO of my highly experimental, eco-anarchist-ish, solarpunky Indigenous Futurisms stories in previous volumes, and they’re REALLY GREAT PEOPLE. All volunteers! who pay their writers, artists, and voice talent very well, and make all their stories free to read online with BEAUTIFULLY produced audio versions. If you have the means, it’s a cool crew and wonderful project to support.
The Supper Club Discord server is now the site of our subscriber chat! If you haven’t yet joined our Stone Soup Supper Club community, sign up for a paid subscription here and you’ll get:

Thank you again for joining me here, my friends. I can’t wait for us to build a bright future together. And as always, remember:
Do what you can. Care for yourself and the people around you. Believe that the world can be better than it is now. Never give up.
