Welcome to this month’s Supper Club Scrapbook! In the Supper Club Discord, we share what we’re working on, what we’re excited about, and how we’re showing up for our neighbors. Every month, I’ll be sharing a little cross-section of what our community is up to.

April was a pretty big month for me. I recovered from March, which was kind of a steamroller of a month. The instant I was on my feet again, my new comic with Haining, Neighborhood Watch, came out and people seemed to like it!

Oh, and I got married.

I’m still figuring out how to write about the wedding. It was a truly unbelievable, magical day. We decided, early in the planning process, to make it a celebration of our community—the families that we were born into, and the family we’ve found. We are surrounded by loved ones who have shaped us into the people we are, so we wanted to host them well, celebrate who they are, and invite their art into our lives. We wanted them to meet each other, and make music together, and make new friends, and dance together, and sing together, and break bread together, and become one interlinked community of amazing people.

And that’s exactly what happened.

I’ve never experienced a day like it.

Later, after everything was over, I realized I was feeling sad about the wedding—and when I interrogated that feeling, here’s what I found: I’m sad it’s not still happening. But the thing is… it is still happening. Because we still get to be in this amazing community of people, who showed up for us with all their incredible, creative, skilled, talented, loving power. We still get to invite their art into our lives and share it with the people around us. It was an amazing day, and it’s not over. It’s every day for the rest of our lives.

I’ll write about it more when I’ve finished spinning, and when I have photos, and when I’ve figured out how to hold something so beautiful in my mind. In the meantime, though, check out the cake, made by my friend (and friend of Stone Soup) Effie Seiberg!

And now, the scrapbook.

I wrote this back in November, on the drive home from a last minute trip to Chicago to help my dearest friend out with pet care when she was overwhelmed. It came up again in a conversation with another friend this week, so yesterday I decided to record and release this little demo. I’m rather proud of this song; I think it captures something really beautiful that I see demonstrated in queer community in particular over and over.

I’ve gotten into turning some of my existing art into greeting cards. of course I can’t just make normal cards.

When our pupper passed last year, we decided to donate to our local zoo so we could honor him with a small plaque at a place my husband and I both love. Tonight, we got to go to a special pre-opening event. The new Forest Trailhead exhibit officially opens May 1, but we got to see it ahead of everyone.

Here's a few that are speaking to me today. My life is a bit in shambles and a lot of the work right now is to see and embrace the joy that is real right now, rather than waiting for the pain to recede or for me to be "healed enough" to be happy.
